Which seems obvious, now that it’s written out. But when evaluating the merits of a solution we seem to forget this bit of truth and instinctively overvalue a sense of timelessness. When choosing a path forward we develop tunnel vision for permanence and disregard any solution that can’t pass the (indomitable) test of time.
But what if this weren’t the case? What if the potential longevity of a solution wasn’t always the make or break factor? What if we welcomed a solution that works for now and planned to react as things unfolded? What if we accepted that the world is always changing and silently withering away even our best laid plans. What if we accepted that all solutions will be a bit smelly?
I think we’d all stop obsessing over the decisions we have to make. I think we’d stop making charts and diagrams about who we choose to date. I think we’d consult less LLMs about where to go for lunch. I think we’d get on living. I’ think we’d learn to enjoy what’s laid before us. I think we’d begin to navigate life without worrying about creating the perfect solution for a litany of problems that we may or may not ever encounter.
