The simplest way to refuse manna from Elsewhere, is to become obsessed with Mammon, and to deny existence of anything above and beyond our ability to see and influence.

On the other hand, the second, and more confusing way to refuse manna from Elsewhere, is to simultaneously believe in its mythological origin, while remaining completely allegiant to Mammon.

In the second way, we see people who claim to believe in Elsewhere—while shilling for their soulless corporation, eviscerating the environment, ruining the lives of others, and belittling the concept of generosity—all because their man-made manna depends on wide margins, profitability at all costs, and zero-sum economics.

In the second way, we find people who crave manna from Elsewhere—yet appeal to Mammon to deliver the mythologized stock. In the second way we find people who expect the ethereal to originate from the Earthly. And finally, in the second way, we find ourselves.

Thankfully, the offer from Elsewhere remains a possibility. And all we must do to accept that which we are made for, and that which was made for us is abandon our impossible belief that one day, manna will come from Mammon.
