In other words, we should avoid associating nice features with essential components. We should question whether or not this “nice” thing warrants the response we feel instinctively drawn to show it. We should look beyond something’s “nice” qualities and attempt to meritocratically determine whether or not something is additive.
While nice things are indeed nice, that doesn’t mean they’re any better than the version that’s rough around the edges. All things must eventually pass the smell test and—some scents can’t be covered up by a pleasant aroma.
